When I first shared my story with VoyageKC, I was in a different professional role. At the time, I was serving as a Youth Development Specialist with Missouri 4-H and still discovering how to bring my DEI values into youth programming. But rereading this piece, I’m struck by how many of the values I shared back then still anchor my work today.

This article follows my early journey — from teaching in public schools to developing inclusive youth programming and eventually stepping into leadership development and DEI consulting. It even touches on one of my most unexpected but meaningful ventures: becoming a Seint Artist, a space where I explored creativity and confidence in a way that challenged my comfort zone and expanded my definition of “teaching.”

If you’re curious about the backstory that led to Sarah Wolters Co., this is a great place to start.
